Liverpool appears to be the nation’s lip filler capital, with more searches for the cosmetic procedure taking place there than elsewhere in the UK, according to Google Trends*.
In the past 12 months, Liverpool came out top for the number of people searching for ‘fillers’ on Google, with Leeds in second place and Belfast coming in third.
In a video for BBC Radio 5 Live, Nicole, a Liverpool salon owner, attributed the rise in popularity of the procedure to its endorsement from the popular reality family, the Kardashians.
Michael Saul, from Cosmetic Surgery Solicitors, said: “Lip fillers have long been growing in popularity across the UK, and it perhaps comes as no surprise that Liverpool is leading the way in googling the procedure.
“We advise anyone who is searching for the term to put that time to good use and research the procedure thoroughly before committing to any injections. As the number of people having fillers has increased in recent years, the procedure has become somewhat ‘normalised’ and so it can be easy to forget there are significant risks involved.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s neighbour, Birkenhead, came out as number one for ‘Botox’ searches, with Liverpool a close second and Belfast, again, in third place.
Liverpool also had more searches for ‘implants’ than any other city, with Leeds and Newcastle following closely behind in second and third place respectively.
According to research from Wise Guy Reports, the fillers market is expected to reach $10008.4 million globally by 2023, with an estimated compound annual growth rate of approximately 12.5 per cent per year.
Botulinum Toxin (Botox), is expected to command the largest share of this growth, with 47.5% of the market.
